Application Instructions for Lining Paper

  1. Make sure application surfaces are sound, clean and dry. Absorbent surfaces (e.g. new plaster) should be sized. Painted surfaces should be sanded.
  2. Mark a straight line on the wall as a guide to hanging the first length. If you intend to overhang the product with decorative wallpaper it is advantageous to hang the lining paper horizontally to ensure any joints coinciding.
  3. Red label lining offers two surface finishes: the inner surface of the roll offers a smoother surface, whereas the outer surface offers a more fibrous finish that may be useful in disguising surface defects. Use either way up but ensure all surfaces are pasted on the same side for your project.
  4. Measure and cut lengths allowing extra for trimming at either end.
  5. Apply the adhesive evenly ensuring the edges are covered.
  6. Fold lengths but do not crease and leave each length to soak for the same period of time until pliabl - we recommend approximately 10-12 minutes.
NB: Bubbles appearing on the surface soon after hanging usually indicate the paper has not been soaked for long enough.
  7. Apply the first length to the guideline. Smooth down with a brush and trim. Remove any adhesive from the face of the paper using a sponge and clean water.
  8. Do not overlap and if you intend to paint the lining, butt joints are suggested to minimise the use of filler at seams.
  9. Allow to dry completely before applying final wallcovering or paint - normally 24 hours is sufficient, however we always recommend that, if there is any doubt, a small test area is painted (or overhung) first.

Adhesive

Paste liberally to each length making sure all edges have been covered. Fold each length paste to paste and soak until pliable - normally 10-12 minutes.
Recommended paste - Good quality ready mixed.

Important

Before application check all rolls are undamaged and you have sufficient wallcovering to complete the job. If any fault is found return the wallcovering and labels to the place of purchase. We are not liable for faulty application. This does not affect your statutory rights. Follow the instructions carefully.

Warning

To minimise the hazard in the event of fire, do not apply wallcoverings over expanded polystyrene veneers and ensure the wallcoverings are always firmly stuck down as loose wallcoverings may contribute to the hazard. Surfaces painted prior to 1960 may contain lead pigments and special precautions should be taken when preparing these surfaces.

This is a simple wallpaper calculator and should be used as a guide only. You can find the roll width and roll length you are after on the specific product page.
Roll widths are provided in meters (such as 0.5 x 10mtr) so your wall widths and heights should be inputted in meters also.
If you are purchasing an offset match product then you may need a little extra as there may be some waste. If you have any windows or doors in your walls you can simply ignore these. This will give a good estimate of required roll numbers.
